George Miller supports Asghar Farhadi’s boycott

Australian director George Miller throwns his weight behind internationally acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi’s decision to boycott the Oscars.

Farhadi announced boycotting the Academy Awards in protest at Donald Trump's visa ban on citizens of seven predominantly Muslim nations.

After being announced as a jury member of a festival, the Australian film maker said, "It's just madness... it is irrational craziness that seems to be affecting the United States and the rest of the world."

He also called Farhadi "a great artist" and praised his latest stand.

Farhadi has recently declared he will not attend the Academy Awards ceremony because of the entry ban on citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, even if he was granted an exemption.

"I hereby express my condemnation of the unjust conditions forced upon some of my compatriots and the citizens of the other six countries trying to legally enter the United States of America and hope that the current situation will not give rise to further divide between nations." Fahadi announced in a statement.

Miller presided over the jury at 2016 Cannes Film Festival that presented two awards to Fahadi's film ‘The Salesman’ – best screenplay and best actor.
